This PRIDE 2023, IHI celebrates 50 years of service to NYC’s LGBTQIA+ communities!

June 25, 2023. HAPPY PRIDE SUNDAY NEW YORK CITY!

This year, IHI reflects on Pride as a critical component of good mental health for every queer- and trans-identified person.

"P" is for personal acceptance. Personal acceptance, self-love, self-compassion, and embracing one's authentic identity all foster a positive mindset and improve mental well-being.

"R" is for resilience. Pride cultivates resilience by empowering queer and trans folx to navigate societal challenges, discrimination, and bigotry. It connects us to one another in community and strengthens our ability to face adversity and maintain our mental well-being.

"I" is for intersectional support. When we lift up the intersectional experiences of queer and trans people, addressing the impacts of our multiple identities, like race, ethnicity, and gender, we promote inclusivity and provide support systems that acknowledge and address our diverse needs.

"D" is for destigmatization. Pride works to challenge persistent social stigmas that target LGBTQIA+ people. By creating a space for celebration and visibility, it reduces shame, fosters acceptance, and improves mental health outcomes.

"E" is for empowerment & advocacy. Pride empowers queer and trans folx to advocate for our rights and challenge discriminatory policies. Empowerment through advocacy and activism leads to increased self-confidence, agency, and improved mental and emotional well-being.

As we honor Pride Month, IHI celebrates 50 years of providing affirming mental health services to queer and transgender folx.

Pride is not one month, event, march, or celebration. It's a mindset that we can carry with us throughout the year.
